The Art of Don Tzu

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 25 August 2026

This policy explains what information is handled when you use The Art of Don Tzu (the “App”), why it is used, and the choices available to you.

1. Who We Are and Key Points

The App is provided by Matt Made Apps (“we”, “us”, or “our”). We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or a user-created account.

The App does, however, use Google Firebase to deliver content and sync quote feedback under an automatically generated anonymous identifier, and Google AdMob to display advertising. These Google services may process device and usage information as described below.

We do not sell your personal information. The App does not use Firebase Analytics or Firebase Crashlytics.

2. Information We Handle

Anonymous account
Firebase Authentication creates a random user identifier (UID). You do not provide a name, email address, password, or profile.
Quote feedback
If you like or dislike a quote, the App may store the quote identifier, your anonymous UID, the feedback value, and an update timestamp in Cloud Firestore.
Quote content
The App downloads the current quote catalogue from Cloud Firestore. This content is not personal information about you.
Advertising data
Google AdMob may process IP address, device information, advertising identifiers, app interactions, ad interactions, diagnostics, and approximate location inferred from signals such as IP address.
On-device data
The App stores first-run status, liked or disliked quote identifiers, the personalised-ads preference, and a quote-cache refresh time in local app storage.
Shared content
When you choose to share a quote, the App creates a temporary quote image and opens your device’s share sheet. You choose the recipient or third-party app.

Information we do not request

We do not request your precise GPS location, contacts, photos, microphone, health data, payment details, or government identifiers.

3. Google Firebase Services

We use the following Google Firebase services:

  • Firebase Authentication creates and maintains the anonymous UID used to protect access to your own feedback records.
  • Cloud Firestore supplies the quote catalogue and stores optional like/dislike feedback associated with that anonymous UID.

Google may process technical information needed to provide, secure, and diagnose these services, such as IP address, device or application identifiers, and request metadata. Google acts as our service provider for these functions.

Our purposes are to provide current quote content, remember feedback across supported sessions, protect feedback records, prevent abuse, and maintain the App. Where UK or EEA data protection law applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and securing the App, except where consent is required by law.

4. Google AdMob and Consent

The App displays ads supplied by Google AdMob. Depending on your region, device settings, consent choices, and the App’s personalised-ads setting, Google may serve:

  • Personalised ads, which may use information about your interests or prior activity to select ads; or
  • Non-personalised ads, which are selected using contextual information rather than your past behaviour.

Non-personalised ads may still use information for ad delivery, frequency capping, aggregated reporting, security, and fraud prevention. Turning off personalised ads does not remove ads.

Where required, Google’s User Messaging Platform asks for your consent before ads are requested. For personalised advertising and device storage/access that requires consent, our legal basis is your consent. You can also turn off Personalised ads from the App’s Settings screen at any time.

5. Your Choices and Device Controls

  • Use the Settings cog in the App to request non-personalised ads.
  • Use any consent or privacy-options form shown by Google where available in your region.
  • Use iOS or Android privacy and advertising controls to limit tracking or reset advertising identifiers.
  • Do not tap the like or dislike controls if you do not want quote feedback synced to Firestore.
  • Choose whether and where to share a quote; sharing never occurs automatically.
  • Clear the App’s local data or uninstall it to remove information held on your device.

Your choice to decline personalised advertising does not affect access to the App’s quote features.

6. How Information Is Shared

We share information only as needed with Google service providers described in this policy, when you direct the App to share a quote, when required by law, or when necessary to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the App.

If you share content through another app, that provider handles the content under its own privacy policy. We do not control the recipient or service you select.

7. Retention and Deletion

  • Local settings and feedback remain on your device until changed, app data is cleared, or the App is uninstalled.
  • Temporary share images are written to temporary device storage and may later be removed by the operating system.
  • Cloud feedback and the anonymous UID are retained while reasonably needed to provide the feedback feature, maintain security, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations.
  • Google advertising and service data is retained according to Google’s applicable policies and controls.

You may request deletion of cloud feedback by contacting us. Because the App uses an anonymous account, we may need information available from the App or device to locate and verify the relevant records, and in some cases may be unable to connect a request to an anonymous record.

8. International Data Transfers

Google may process information on servers outside the UK or EEA. Where required, transfers are protected by recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or approved standard contractual clauses. See Google’s privacy documentation for details.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

10. Your Data Protection Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal information; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent; and complain to a data protection authority.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal. Some rights may be limited where we cannot identify an anonymous record or where an exemption applies. UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards. Firestore access rules restrict feedback records to the associated authenticated anonymous user, and public quote content is read-only from the App. No internet service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the App, our providers, or legal requirements change. The latest version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be highlighted in the App where appropriate.
